The short version

Speech On is a free set of speech practice exercises. It is not a medical device, not therapy, not an assessment, and not a treatment for any condition. It does not replace a qualified speech and language professional. It is provided as it is, with no promises about results. If speaking hurts, stop, and read Practising safely.

1. Who provides this service

Speech On (the "Service") at speechon.app is provided by Vyshak K Iyengar, an individual based in London, United Kingdom. Contact: via LinkedIn. In these terms, "we" and "us" mean that provider, and "you" means anyone using the Service.

2. What Speech On is, and what it is not

The Service offers guided exercises in speaking aloud: moving the lips and tongue, breathing, pacing, pausing and reading passages. It is intended solely as a general wellbeing and practice activity for people who want to warm up or practise speaking.

Speech On is not a medical device. It is not intended for the diagnosis, prevention, monitoring, prediction, prognosis, treatment or alleviation of any disease, injury or disability. It makes no diagnostic or therapeutic claim. Nothing in the Service should be treated as medical advice or as a clinical intervention.

Specifically, the Service is not a treatment for stuttering, dysarthria, apraxia of speech, aphasia, voice disorders, articulation or phonological disorders, or any other diagnosed condition. It does not assess your speech, does not measure it, and cannot tell you whether anything is wrong. The exercises have not been clinically validated as a programme.

If you have a speech, language, voice or swallowing concern, please consult a qualified speech and language professional. The Service is not a substitute for that, and using it is not a reason to delay seeking help.

3. No results are promised

We make no representation or warranty that the Service will improve your speech, your clarity, your confidence, your fluency or anything else. Individual results vary and may be nil. Any description of what an exercise is for is a description of intent, not a promise of outcome.

4. Your responsibility when using it

You use the Service at your own discretion and risk. You are responsible for judging whether an exercise is appropriate for you and for stopping if it is not. You agree to follow the guidance in Practising safely, in particular: to use comfortable effort, to stop if anything hurts, to sit down for the breathing steps, and to seek medical attention rather than practise if you experience any of the warning signs listed there.

If you are under the care of a healthcare professional, follow their programme and check with them before adding this one.

5. Children

The Service is designed for adults and is not directed at children. If a child uses it, that is the responsibility of their parent or guardian, who should read Practising safely first. Concerns about a child's speech development belong with a health visitor, GP or paediatric speech and language therapist, not with this app.

6. Availability

The Service is free and provided on an "as is" and "as available" basis. We may change, suspend, restrict or withdraw it, in whole or in part, at any time and without notice. We do not undertake to keep it running, to keep any particular exercise in it, or to preserve your saved progress. Your progress is stored only in your own browser and can be lost for reasons entirely outside our control, such as clearing site data.

7. Acceptable use

Please do not use the Service unlawfully; attempt to interfere with, overload or gain unauthorised access to it; present it to others as a clinical service, a treatment, or something it is not; or remove or obscure the notices in it when sharing it. You may freely link to it and recommend it.

8. Intellectual property

The design, text, illustrations, exercise sequences and code of the Service belong to us, except where a third-party licence applies, such as the open-source typefaces used. You may use the Service personally and professionally, including sharing the link with patients, students, colleagues or clients, and printing the handout. You may not present the material as your own or sell it.

9. Warranties

To the fullest extent permitted by law, we exclude all warranties, conditions and terms implied by statute, common law or otherwise, including any implied warranty of satisfactory quality, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy or non-infringement. We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, error free, secure, or free of harmful components, or that any information in it is complete or current.

10. Liability

Nothing in these terms limits or excludes our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or for anything else that cannot lawfully be limited or excluded. If you are a consumer, these terms do not affect your statutory rights, and any term here that would be unfair under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 does not apply to you.

Subject to that, and to the fullest extent permitted by law: we are not liable for any loss or damage arising from your use of, or inability to use, the Service; we are not liable for any indirect or consequential loss, or for loss of data, profit, opportunity, revenue or goodwill; and our total aggregate liability arising out of or in connection with the Service, however caused, is limited to one hundred pounds sterling (£100). The Service is supplied free of charge and this limit reflects that.

11. Third parties

The Service links to external organisations and references. We do not control those sites and are not responsible for their content or their practices. A link is not an endorsement, and no organisation linked from this Service has endorsed it.

12. Privacy

How we handle data is set out in the Privacy notice, which forms part of these terms. In short: your practice history never leaves your browser, and there is no account and no microphone.

13. Changes

We may update these terms. The date at the top shows when they last changed. Continuing to use the Service after a change means you accept the updated terms. Material changes will be noted on this page.

14. Governing law

These terms and any dispute arising out of them are governed by the laws of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have exclusive jurisdiction. If you are a consumer resident elsewhere in the UK or in the EU, you keep the benefit of any mandatory protections of your country of residence and may bring proceedings there.

15. General

If any provision of these terms is found unenforceable, the rest continues to apply. Our failure to enforce a provision is not a waiver of it. These terms are between you and us, and no one else may enforce them.
