Practising your speech

speechon.app

This is a free website with guided speech practice exercises. Open the link and start. There is nothing to download, no account to make, no email to give, and nothing to pay. It works on a phone, a tablet or a computer, and it keeps working without internet once it has loaded.

What you do

  • Choose 5, 8, 12 or about 20 minutes.
  • Follow each instruction and say the words out loud.
  • Move to the next one when you are ready. Nothing is timed unless you want it to be.
  • Stop whenever you like. You can come back to where you left off.

What is in it

  • Settling your breath and relaxing your face
  • Moving your lips and tongue clearly
  • Saying sounds, then words, then sentences
  • Slowing down and pausing
  • Speaking in your own words at the end

What it is not

  • It is not treatment and not therapy.
  • It does not replace seeing a speech and language therapist.
  • It does not listen to you, record you or score you.
  • It cannot tell you whether anything is wrong with your speech.

Your privacy

  • No microphone is used at any point.
  • Nothing you do is sent anywhere. Your practice record stays on your own device.
  • Nobody, including the people who made it, can see your practice.

Stop and get medical help straight away if: your speech becomes slurred suddenly, or one side of your face, arm or leg becomes weak, or you become suddenly confused. These can be signs of a stroke. Call 999 in the UK, 112 in Europe, or 911 in the US.

See your doctor if: your voice has been hoarse for more than three weeks, it hurts to speak or swallow, or your speech is slowly getting worse.

While practising: stop if anything hurts. Use your normal speaking volume. Sit down for the breathing parts. Rest if your voice gets tired.
